"Do not look back in anger, or forward in fear, but around in awareness" - James Thurber

About Me

Picture
I am a doctoral student in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D) at The California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in Los Angeles. With an emphasis in Health Psychology, my clinical interests include the mind-body-spirit connection, managing chronic illness and treatment adherence, anxiety and mood disorders, trauma related issues, substance abuse/dependence, and sexual and gender identity development.

I approach therapy with an integrated modality that seeks to consider the many dimensions of an individual's experiences. When appropriate, I integrate psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral therapies with mindfulness or solution-focused approaches to provide culturally sensitive treatment decisions for the "whole" person. I am also trained in LGBTQ-Affirmative Psychotherapy, and familiar with ACT and Prolonged Exposure Therapy.

I have provided therapy (under the supervision of liscensed clinical psychologists) in outpatient, inpatient, and community mental health settings in the Los Angeles area. As part of an integrated team of health care professionals, I have worked with individuals and groups who were struggling with a variety of emotional difficulties, chronic illnesses, severe mental health, struggles with addiction and sobriety, sexual identity and gender concerns, PTSD, childhood trauma, and difficulties arising from conflicts between religion and sexuality. My experience providing HIV counseling extends to individuals who were dealing with being newly diagnosed, as well as those challenged with longer term physical and social effects.

As a clinician and an advocate, I am committed to improving health services and civil liberties for minority groups in my community. In particular, I have been involved in empowering the LGBTQ community for many years; serving on the Board of Directors of both L.A. Shanti HIV/AIDS Service Organization and The Los Angeles Tennis Association (the Worlds largest LGBTQ sports organization). I am a recipient of the Andrew Starke "Warrior" Award from the West Hollywood City Council for my volunteer work in the community. I created and produced "Club +", a monthly non-profit event designed to meet the emotional and social needs of HIV+ gay men. The event ran for almost two years, garnering national attention and a WeHo Award nomination for "Outstanding Community Event", along side The LA Gay Pride Parade and AIDS Walk Los Angeles.
